NDLEA trains LG officials, traditional rulers on the reduction of drug abuse

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara State Command, North Central Nigeria has initiated a training programme for traditional rulers and local government officials aimed at reducing drug abuse among grassroots communities.

At the event held in Ilorin, and organized by the agency in collaboration with the State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Community Development, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq emphasized the importance of the sensitization program.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Community Development, Mrs. Iyabo Adekeye, Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the need for effective strategies to combat drug abuse.
He noted that, “Public awareness of the dangers of drug abuse could lead to its eradication or significant reduction.”
Governor AbdulRazaq praised the traditional institutions for their support of the state government’s efforts to reduce drug demand.
He encouraged residents to avoid drug abuse to foster a healthy and peaceful society.
In his remarks, the State Commander of the NDLEA, Mohammed Ibrahim, represented by the Deputy Director of the Drug Demand Reduction Unit, Mrs. Aina Olufunke, stated that the training is aimed at educating participants on reducing drug abuse in their communities.
He called for a collective effort to win the war against drug abuse.
In her presentation, the Assistant Director of the Sensitization Drug Demand Reduction Department, Mrs. Fatima Popoola explained that, “Involving traditional leaders and other relevant stakeholders is crucial for reducing drug demand.”
She advised parents to be vigilant about their children’s activities to prevent them from joining harmful groups.
Participants at the program praised the organizers, noting that the initiative would help reduce drug abuse at the grassroots level.
The theme of the event is:“Drug Prevention, Treatment, and Care (DPTC).”
