Past governors in the governing party in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress, APC, have been cautioned not to undermine the serving governors in their states.

The National Chairman of the APC, Senator Adamu Abdullahi, gave the caution during his opening speech at the ongoing National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party taking place at Transcorp Hotels, Abuja.

According to the APC National Chairman, the APC Constitution states that serving governors in the party are the state leaders; therefore, the past governors must act like statesmen and provide guidance.

Senator Abdullahi further explained that “ego”, which is causing disunity between past and serving governors and other party leaders, is pulling the party in different directions.

He added that the disunity could affect the electoral chances of the APC in 2023.

The APC NEC meeting, which is currently ongoing, has the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari,  Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Governors, APC state chairmen and other members of the APC National Executive Committee in attendance.

The agenda for the meeting is to discuss ways to unite the party and the party’s preparations for the 2023 General Election.
