Abdul Mohammed Isa, Niger State
The registrar of the National examination council of Nigeria NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi has called on the need for government to remove the council from the list of agencies remiting 25 percent.
Professor Wushishi stated this during a media briefing for the release of the 2021external examination results conducted by the council in Minna, Niger State on Thursday.
He further added that NECO as an extermination body is a social service institution not established to generate revenue to the government, as such should be exempted from the practice of remitting 25 percent to the government.
“We’ve made our case through the Ministry of Education, and we are hoping that something positive will be done,” he added.
The new approved DTA according to Professor Wushishi, is rather compounding to the problems of the institution, as NECO has to source for the money from our earning such as the examination registration fee
“From our calculation, we need over N2 billion to be able to withstand the new DTA recently approved by the government”.
The Registrar who however appreciated the federal government for its recent approval of over N4.00 Billion, added that the council needs more funding from the government to cater for other activities of the examination body.
