NECO Releases 2024 SSCE External Examination Results

The National Examinations Council, NECO, has released the results for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, External, conducted between November 14 and December 14, 2024.

Announcing the results at a press conference on Friday at NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, the Registrar, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed that 86,067 candidates registered for the examination, while 84,799 sat for it.

He stated that 57,114 candidates, representing 67.35%, obtained five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics.

Performance Breakdown

  • English Language: 83,220 candidates sat for the subject, with 62,929 (75.62%) earning a credit or higher.
  • Mathematics: 83,024 candidates sat for the exam, and 77,988 (93.93%) obtained a credit or higher.
  • Overall Pass Rate: 70,711 candidates (83.39%) secured at least five credits, irrespective of English and Mathematics.

Examination Malpractice

Professor Wushishi noted a “reduction in malpractice cases compared to the previous year, with 6,160 candidates involved, a 27.7% drop from 2023’s 8,518 cases.”

He further revealed that ” seven supervisors—two each from Oyo and Ogun States and one each from Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi States, were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, lateness, and aiding malpractice.”

Additionally, 14 exam centres, 10 in Ogun state and four in Oyo state, were blacklisted for widespread malpractice in nine subjects.

Professor Wushishi expressed gratitude to the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, for their support throughout the examination process.
