NECO Releases 2025 SSCE External Results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, just 52 days after the last examination paper was written.

Speaking at the result release ceremony in Minna Niger State North Central Nigeria, the NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, said the SSCE External examination was conducted from Wednesday, 26 November to Saturday, 13 December 2025, while the marking exercise took place between 5 January and 21 January 2026. A total of 16 subjects were examined.

Professor Wushishi explained that the SSCE External examination provides candidates with a second chance to obtain the required qualifications for admission into universities and other higher institutions in Nigeria and abroad.

According to the Registrar, a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, out of which 95,160 candidates sat for the exams. This included 50,785 male candidates, representing 53.36 percent, and 44,375 female candidates, representing 46.63 percent.

Professor Wushishi said that in English Language, 93,425 candidates sat for the examination, with 73,167 candidates, representing 78.32 percent, scoring credit and above.

For Mathematics, 93,330 candidates sat for the examination, and 85,256 candidates, representing 91.35 percent, obtained credit and above.

He also revealed that 68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 percent, scored five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. In addition, 82,082 candidates, representing 86.26 percent, scored five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

However, the Registrar expressed concern over examination malpractice. A total of 9,016 candidates were booked for various forms of malpractice, representing an increase of 31.7 percent compared to the 6,160 cases recorded in 2024.

He added that five supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory, Kano north west, Adamawa north east and Ondo South wastern Nigeria were recommended for blacklisting, while four examination centres in Niger North Central, Yobe north east and Kano north wast were recommended for de-recognition over whole-centre examination malpractice.
