NEMA distributes Agricultural materials in North-East

 

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has distributed agricultural input to farmers in the northeast region states of Nigeria affected by 2020 flood disaster.

 

The Director General of NEMA, Mr.  Ahmed Mustapha Habib made this known during a courtesy visit to his Excellency the Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum in Maiduguri the Borno State capital.

 

He said: “Today we are here on a courtesy visit, we are also here to witness a landmark event for the flag-off of the distribution of agricultural input to farmers in the northeast region states of Nigeria affected by 2020 flood disaster.

“We have chosen Borno State for the flag-off event in the northeast because the state was one of the most heavily affected during the 2020 flood disaster, yet despite the flood, Borno State has remained in the frontline of the Agricultural revolution currently raging in Nigeria, thanks to his Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment to safeguard food security in Nigeria.“

 

The DG said, a total of 7386 farmers in 11 LGA’s have been verified in Borno State for the intervention, we are flagging off today it is my hope that this intervention to go a long way in supporting our people to get back on their feet to start a normal live.

 

Deputy Director Special Duties NEMA, Dr. Orumode Bandele stated that 7386 farmers will benefit from the Agricultural intervention in Borno State.

 

He said: “Three crops have been approved for farmers in this state, this are rice, sorghum and Cowpea. 

 

“Each of these crops has equal number of farmers of 2462 each, farmers that will grow cowpea will be given inputs of seeds 10kg herbicide 1 litre pesticides 1 litre, growth enhancing 1 litre.

 

“Farmer that will grow sorghum will receive 2 litres of herbicide, 1 litre of pesticides, 2 litres of growth enhancer and 1 litre of liquid fertilizer.

 

“Rice the input seeds is 12.5 kilograms herbicide 2 litres pesticides, 1 litre growth enhancer and 1 litre of liquid fertilizer.” 

 

Governor Zulum in his response response said: “NEMA has been providing support for the displaced communities in Borno for the last 6 to 7 years, you have truly impacted positively to our displaced communities.

 

“Let me also comment your effort for providing agricultural inputs to about 7306 in Borno State to those that were affected by the flood and other related cases.

 

“I have listened to your request and in sha Allah the ministry of agriculture and ministry of governmental affairs will immediately look into the possibility of providing additional store as you requested in collaboration with our able director general of SEMA.”

 

The governor also said: “I want to appeal to NEMA to be dynamic I’m their intervention and distribution of food and None food Items, will urge NEMA to always liase with the state SEMA to identify the key areas of intervention.“
