The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the German Development Cooperation to advance renewable energy development and regulatory standards in Nigeria’s power sector.
This was contained in a press release signed by the head of Public Affairs Unit of NEMSA, Ama Umoren, following a courtesy visit by the German Development Cooperation, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH under the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) in Abuja.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between NEMSA and NESP, particularly in the areas of renewable energy development, regulatory standards, and capacity building within Nigeria’s electricity sector.
The leader of the visiting delegation, Milot Karid, congratulated the leadership of NEMSA and reaffirmed the programme’s commitment to sustaining the strong collaboration between both institutions.
He highlighted key milestones already achieved through the partnership, including the successful development of guidelines for the inspection and certification of solar mini-grids in Nigeria.
According to him, the collaboration has also supported targeted capacity-building initiatives for NEMSA personnel, aimed at strengthening the agency’s technical expertise in enforcing safety and quality standards in Nigeria’s growing renewable energy sector.
Regulatory Compliance
Responding, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEMSA, Olusegun Adesayo, who also serves as the Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to promoting electrical safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
Adesayo expressed appreciation to GIZ and the European Union for their continued support in strengthening Nigeria’s power sector.
He noted that the next phase of the collaboration would involve the formal launch of the solar mini-grid inspection and certification guidelines, as well as deeper cooperation in advancing renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, and rural electrification across the country.
The Nigerian Energy Support Programme is a technical assistance initiative co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power.
Both organisations reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions, improving standards in renewable energy deployment.
