The Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) has released comprehensive procedures and guidelines for the enrolment of institutions, organisations, workers and students, highlighting that the process is entirely digital and requires no physical travel.
In a statement issued to journalists, NERD’s Executive Director of Communication and Cyber Security, Haula Galadima, explained that all enrolment activities are to be completed online in real time through the official website https://ned.gov.ng.
She noted that the platform has been fully equipped to collect all required information electronically, while a dedicated support team has been deployed to assist users who experience challenges during the registration process.
“No student or worker should leave their home or travel for NERD enrolment. Everything can be completed online, and help is available throughout the process,” Galadima assured.
She advised users to initiate the process by visiting the NERD website and clicking the “Start” button at the top of the homepage or by going directly to https://ned.gov.ng/onboarding.
Galadima further explained that every institution and organisation in Nigeria is required to appoint three key officers: the NERD Focal Officer (NFO), NERD Record Officer (NRO) and NERD Digitisation Officer (NDO) in accordance with Federal Government directives.
According to her, the NFO serves as the representative of the institution’s chief executive and must be a senior official with the necessary authorisation. The NRO is responsible for record verification under the supervision of the Registrar or Chief Human Resource Officer, while the NDO provides first-line technical support for NERD-related operations.
She added that these officers play crucial roles in ensuring that records uploaded for digitisation and secured code administration are authentic and duly approved by relevant senates or boards, a process that eliminates delays in verifying students and employees.
Galadima confirmed that hundreds of users had already completed the initial phase of enrolment, urging institutions to promptly appoint their focal officers to validate submitted records.
She also disclosed that individuals with institutional email addresses ending in Nigeria’s regulated domains, such as .edu.ng or .gov.ng, would enjoy faster verification.
“Students need their lecturers, particularly project supervisors and Heads of Department, to enrol, as these officials are responsible for authenticating academic submissions using approved digital tools,” she added.
On academic credential verification, Galadima reaffirmed that NERD’s digital system is designed to instantly validate academic records once authorised officers upload senate or board-approved data or marksheets directly through the platform or via the system’s API.
