Network Honours Former Sokoto State Governor for his Political Contributions
The Network for Democracy and Good Governance of Nigeria has honoured the former Sokoto state Governor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, as 2024 hero of Nigerian Democracy for his contributions to the development of the state and the country at large.
Presenting the award to senator Wamakko, the Sokoto state Governor Ahmad Aliyu, commended the network for finding his mentor worthy to present the award to him as 2024 hero of democracy.
Governor Aliyu described senator Wamakko as a true Democrat whose achievements will continue to impact positively to the lives of people.
” Legacies of senator Wamakko will forever be remembered.
” Wamakko demonstrates exemplary life sacrifice, selfless and compassion as a public leader.
” The exhibition of his high level of patriotism, style of quality leadership, resilience, integrity, and credibility inspired various politicians to imitate his footsteps.
” His open door policy of leadership and consistently prioritised the needs of his people over personal interests will always be cherished and worthy of emulation,” Governor Aliyu said.
Sustainance of democracy
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Idris Gobir, added that Wamakko contributed immensely in the sustainance of democracy in sokoto, northern Nigeria and the country as a whole.
In his remarks, the State Minister for Water Resources, Bello Goronyo, said history of Nigeria will never be completed without highlighting the contributions of Senator Wamakko.
Goronyo said, “We will continue to celebrates his exemplary life of sacrifice, selfless services as true Democrat.”
He commended the organisers of the event who have chosen the most appropriate person and theme for this year’s celebration as: “Celebrating a Hero of Democracy,” which exactly described Senator Wamakko.
Also, the National Coordinator Network for Democracy and Good Governance, Abdulrahman Umar, said the award to senator Wamakko become necessary considering the role he played during 2023 general elections.
He noted that Senator Wamakko contributed immensely to the successes of All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, northern region and the country.
Promote its activities
He thanked the former Governor for his support and encouragement to the network which promote its activities positively.
The recipient of the award, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, thanked the network for recognising and finding him worthy for the Award.
He assured his continuous commitments, building and strengthening and development of democracy in the country.
Wamakko who was represented by Secretary to Sokoto State Government, Bello Sifawa, added that he lives a fulfilled life as he spent over a decade serving his people.
He thanked all who contributed to his successes and assured to continue to use his vast experience for the overall benefits of his people and the country.
The highlight of the event was presentation of various award to personalities who distinguished themselves, Goodwill messages and among others.
