The Chief Imam of the National Mosque in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Professor Shehu Galadanci, has urged Nigerians to never be divided in spite of ethnic and religious differences but to remain together for the prosperity of the nation.

The Chief Imam said this while delivering his Juma’at sermon and special anniversary prayers to hundreds of Muslim ummahs.

He said, Nigeria at 62 has every course to celebrate and Nigerians must give thanks to Allah for the numerous bounties the country is endowed with both materials and human resources.

“We Nigerians must continue to thank Almighty Allah for all the bounties granted to us in this country. A country blessed with so many valuable materials including gold and crude beneath the land.

“He has granted the country so many professionals, exceptionally intellectuals who are contributing in branches of scientific fields and technology not only to the development of Nigeria but also many countries of the world.

Imam Galadanci reminded Nigerians of the need to emulate the country’s founding fathers who stood against any affiliation and secured a united entity.

“It is only the spirit of unity and love that will build a prosperous nation.

“While celebrating, we should always remind ourselves of what our political founding fathers had done to succeed in fighting for independence.

In spite of their differences in their local traditions, local languages, and religious beliefs, they put their heads together and worked very hard in order to build a very strong, united and prosperous country.”

The Chief Imam called on the political class to play politics with decorum for the development of the country.

Special prayers were offered for unity, security and peaceful 2023 elections.
