The newly appointed Permanent Secretary.of the Federal Ministry of Education in Nigeria, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack has assumed duty pledging to ensure a reward for outstanding performance.
Mrs. Walson-Jack, who was received at the headquarters of the Ministry in Abuja by the Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Zubairu Abdullahi alongside other Directors and members of staff said the move would encourage excellence, meritocracy and ensure high levels of staff motivation in the ministry.
“We would establish a robust performance-driven Rewards and Recognition System. I shall do everything within my power and authority to ensure a reward for outstanding performance,” she said.
She also pledged to be fair, just, and honest to all in the course of working in the ministry, urging the entire staff to do the same
“We must adhere to the principles of Truth, Honesty, Fairness, and Justice in our operations. I pledge always to uphold the truth. I shall be honest with you all the time. I shall always endeavour to do right to all men and women without fear or favour,” she said.
She urged the staff to always focus on how to improve the education system in the country as it is fundamental to the development of the nation.
“We must focus on using education to foster the development of all Nigerian Citizens to their full potential in promoting a strong, democratic, egalitarian, prosperous, indivisible, and indissoluble sovereign nation under God.”
The Permanent Secretary said she will equally work towards improvement of labour and management relations in the ministry, especially the resolution of most of the issues that cause conflict with workers.
“As Federal Civil Servants, we have a right to a safe and conducive work environment, to conditions of service remuneration, compensation, welfare, and benefits that would motivate us to be productive.
“My message to the unions is loud and clear. We are members of the same executive arm team and play in the same league working to deliver service to the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria That being the case, the “we” versus “them” era is over. Now is the time to unite to deliver quality service to the nation,” she said.
Zubairu Abdullahi while handing over documents on behalf of the immediate past Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Andrew Adejo, welcomed her to the ministry saying that the staff are “eager to work with her based on her track records.”
“We have a highly committed staff. Staff that are ready to give you support to take education to a greater heights,” he said.
He intimated her with the staff capacity, parastatals, Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, and other schools under the ministry.
The permanent Secretary in charge of the State House, Olusesan Adebiyi in a remark urged the staff of the education ministry to be dedicated to their duty and cooperate with her as she is very supportive, stressing that they have a lot to benefit from her as a caring person.
Mr.Ibrahim Tanko Yusuf in remark also described the new permanent Secretary as a mentor, a straight forward person, and one that adds value to wherever she goes, as such the ministry is lucky and bound to benefit a lot from her wealth of knowledge .
