State and local government workers in Osun State, on Monday, trooped out in large numbers to appreciate Governor Ademola Adeleke for endorsing a new minimum wage of N75,558.24 for workers in the state.

The workers who were visibly happy laid siege to the main entrance of the Osun State Secretariat, Abere, singing songs of appreciation to the governor as early as 8:00 am.

The Head of Service of Osun State, Ayanleye Aina, while appreciating the governor, described him as a compassionate leader.

Aina assured the governor of the commitment of Osun State workers to his agenda of driving development throughout the state, adding that no stone would be left unturned to help him achieve his vision.

He said, “We are here today to show appreciation for the kindness of the Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke over the issue of minimum wage.

“He did not just approve for us the national minimum wage, but he gave us N75,558.24 and we, as workers would not disappoint the people by ensuring that Osun got more quality service delivery from the workforce.”

The State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, also lauded Governor Adeleke for making the negotiations for the new minimum wage easy and seamless.

He called on workers in the state to reciprocate the gesture of the governor by rededicating themselves to their work while also giving their best.

He said, “There’s need to appreciate Mr. Governor for giving us a seamless approval in the course of negotiating for the new minimum wage.

“Mr. Governor has proven himself to be a man of his word, and we can boldly say that he’s a talk-and-do governor.”

Governor Adeleke, in his remarks, vowed to continue to prioritize workers’ welfare since they are the engine room of his government, noting that whatever you put into your civil service is what you get out.

“To me, every worker deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. The government has a duty to fully attend to the welfare of workers, especially the bureaucracy that is the engine room of the government.

“It is a sin to neglect workers’ welfare. I affirm my passionate commitment to workers’ welfare, now and all the time. The more we have the resources, the more we will deepen our pro-workers’ programmes and policies,” the governor said.
