New Zealand Beats Norway In Women’s World Cup Opener
Co-hosts of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, New Zealand, began the tournament with an impressive 1-0 victory against Norway to record the country’s first win in the competition, at the Eden Park Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand.
New Zealand striker Hannah Wilkinson finished scored the only goal of the game after a superb team goal early in the second half to seal a historic victory.
The co-hosts held firm in front of a record crowd for a women’s football match in New Zealand to get the Women’s World Cup up and running in grand style.
The group stage runs over a two-week period finishing on August 3rd. Group winners and runners-up progress to the round of 16, which takes place from August 5th – 8th, 2023.
