Brazilian forward Neymar Jr. has suffered a cruciate ligament injury that will sideline him for eight weeks.
The 29-year old picked up the injury while playing for French side Paris Saint Germain (PSG) on Sunday against Saint Etienne which PSG won 3-1.
The club in a statement said Neymar suffered from a sprained left ankle with ligament damage.
“The examinations carried out last night confirm that Neymar Jr suffered from a sprained left ankle with ligament damage. An unavailability of 6 to 8 weeks is expected. A new update will be made in 72 hours to clarify the diagnosis.”
Marquinhos scored twice while Di Maria netted the winner to strengthen PSG’s lead at the top of the French Ligue One.
Sergio Ramos made his debut while Messi created all three goals despite the Parisians initially going behind.
But Neymar’s injury could be a source of worry due to his recent health history.
