NGO Empowers Over 10,000 Out-of-School Girls in Nigeria

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Association for Literacy Support Services has empowered more than 10,000 out-of-school girls and young women across three states in Nigeria.

The organization according to its president, Comrade Noah Emmanuel aims to reach all 36 states and Abuja, the capital of Nigeria in a significant move towards eradicating illiteracy and promoting sustainable socio-economic development.

During a recent presentation and appointment of letters to its boards of trustees in Abuja, NOGALSS President Comrade Noah Emmanuel revealed that 4,500 beneficiaries are from Adamawa state in North east Nigeria, 3,000 from Ebonyi State in South East and 2,500 from Abuja the Country’s capital City.

NOGALSS, serving as the apex umbrella body for all NGOs, private, and voluntary organizations engaged in adult, formal, and educational activities in Nigeria, is actively providing accelerated second-chance education for out-of-school girls and young women.

Comrade Noah Emmanuel emphasized the organization’s crucial role in advocating for literacy, shaping policy, implementing grassroots modifications, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.

“NOGALSS actively participates in the EU-UN Spotlight initiative, focusing on eliminating violence against women and girls which provides accelerated second-chance education for out-of-school girls and young women facing intersecting forms of marginalization”.

Comrade Noah highlighted the role of education in addressing violence against women and girls, emphasizing it as a collective responsibility.

He said the EU-UN Spotlight scale-up program aims to combat gender-based violence and limited access to education.

Ambassador Lawal Saulawa, a trustee of the organization, called upon government, politicians, and other stakeholders, especially in less advantaged states in education, to support NOGALSS in achieving its desired aim.

“We firmly believe that by coming together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of women and girls facing intersecting marginalization.”
