NGO Empowers Widows, Orphans in Kwara state

A Non Governmental Organisation, the Prophet Agbana Foundation, has empowered 88 widows, orphans and indigent in Kwara on skills acquisition and job creation.

Speaking at the financial empowerment and distribution of Food items in Ilorin, Bolanle Akande, the Chairperson of the Foundation explained that the foundation is an NGO dedicated to the care and upliftment of widows and orphans in Nigeria.

According to Akande, the foundation is a continuation of the selfless humanitarian activities of  the late leader Prophet Agbana, who dedicated his life to helping the poor irrespective of their religious inclination.

She added that the foundation is devoid of  religious discrimination and inclination of beneficiaries, as it caters for the needs of beneficiaries who are from the Christian and Islamic faith.

Akande reiterated her resolve to continue to help the indigent in the society while sustaining the legacy of Agbana.

Also speaking, Mrs Folashade Aransiola, a major partner of the Foundation explained that the mandate of the organisation  is to provide succour to the less privileged in the society.

Aransiola disclosed that during the 2022, empowerment program of Prophet Agbana some women who were widows received  the sum of N50,000 while others get N20,000.

According to her, this is expected to help them start a small scale business following skills empowerment given to them.

She added that the organisation also gives financial support to the indigent and help them grow their vocations into business that can cater for them and their family needs.

“The foundation has empowered 88 beneficiaries. Some of them get N50,000, others get N20,000, which is expected to help them start a small scale business after the vacation the must have learned from the foundation,” she said.

Aransiola added that the foundation have also trained beneficiaries in skills acquisition on Soap and Vaseline production, Garri processing and Shea butter production, amongst others.

Support For Orphans

She further disclosed that the foundation is currently supporting some orphans through payment of school tuition, even at the  University level.

In their different reactions, Mrs Iyabo Garba, one of the widows and a Fish Monger, commended the foundation, adding that she was given financial support to boost her fish business.

Also Mrs Jummy Bulus, also a widow said the foundation has built houses for some homeless widows and are sponsoring some of their children in schools.

Aransiola added that the supports are in memory of late Agbana and it is dedicated to Almighty God.
