NGO Flags off Future Project in Abuja

A non governmental Organisation, NGO  known as One World Initiative for Sustainable Development, has flagged off SAVE OUR FUTURE PROJECT in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. 

The project is another boost for the fight against out of school children in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The president of the NGO. Timothy Achanya said he would partner with relevant agencies to reduce the alarming rate of out of school children in the FCT and Nigeria through direct scholarship, community based home school and empowerment of mothers for sustainable development.

He said, “We aim to provide direct scholarships to children beginning from today. We shall work to establish community based home school in the grass roots and mothers would be equipped with requisite knowledge to serve as the first line of defence in our project of taking the children off the street. We shall provide certified literacy and vocational education programs for the Youth. This would include both those who not ventured into the four walls of educational institutions and those who may have dropped put for one reason or the other”.  

The event was attended by various stakeholders in the FCT; they include the FCT universal Basic Education Board UBEB, the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, FCT social Development Secretariat, the National human right commission and the Legal aid council.

In a goodwill message, the acting Executive Chairman of the FCT UBEB, Dr. Alhassan Sule lamented on the increasing rate of out of school children.

He said the Board was ready to partner with the NGO to stem the tide of out of school children in the FCT.

Mr Sule identified poverty, ignorance and insecurity as the major causes of out of school children.

He said FCT UBEB was always ready to partner with NGOs to fight the rising cases of out of school children.

” In the FCT Universal Basic Board, one of the key priorities under the leadership of the acting Executive Chairman Dr. Alhassan Sule is to ensure that the social mobilization department are always on their toes moving from community to community to sensitize them in collaboration with NGO. One of the things we collaborating with NGO particularly one World is what we are seeing today because when you collaborate with them, you discover that alot of issues will come up and they will intervain. And we appreciate what One World Development initiative is doing now” he said.

Twenty seven students were offered scholarship for six Years; from Junior Secondary school 1 to Senior Secondary school 3.
