NGO seeks eradication of corruption in Nigeria

A non profit organization, Al-Habibiyya Islamic Society has held a one day engagement for Islamic Scholars on accountability, transparency and Anti-corruption in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The event was organised with the aim of educating and enlightening the Muslim scholars on the effect of corruption and how to eradicate it in lslamic perspectives.

The Chief Imam of Al-Habibiyya Islamic Society, Imam Faud Adeyemi in his opening remarks said corruption has become an impediment even among religious leaders, that is why it has become very difficult to wipe away corruption in our societies.

“I consider corruption as one of the factors that is stopping this our great country Nigeria from achieving its dream, if we can eradicate corruption from our places of worship, Government offices and Homes I believe Nigeria will be great again and our dignity will be restore.

“I call on Muslims, Christians and other believers to shun corruption and embrace accountability and transparency in every thing they do for the sake of our future generations. Nigeria is the only country we have and no one wants to leave a corrupt nation as legacy to his generation.

The Former Nigerian Ambassador to Pakistan, Ambassador Ridhwan Mustapha , speaking at the event reminded them on the need to account for your deeds after life.

“Corruption is found in every sector of society now with the critical examination of both small and large, you need to be honest irrespective of the position you are holding weather big or small, you have to maintain certain level of decency in your leadership to make this country better.

“I believe there is no religion that permits corruption and we follow the teachings  of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Jesus Christ, non of these Prophets taught corruption, then why are we doing things that  both religions prohibits.

Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, which was established in 2003,  is a nonprofit organization engaged in Islamic education and promotion of good governance. Al-Habibiyyah mobilizes citizens through its “Be Just” campaign to understand the cost of corruption and its impact on their daily lives.
