NGO Seeks Improved Functional Health Sector

A non-governmental organisation Connected Development (CODE)  has enjoined stakeholders in the health sector to help in developing functional and improved healthcare sector across states in the North-Central geo-political zone of the country.

Speaking at an event in Jos, the Country Director  Mr Muazu Modu,of  Follow the Money, an Initiative of CODE, said that the initiative would set an agenda for the healthcare in the country.

He explained that the event was part of its project ”COVID-19 Transparency and Accountability in Africa (CTAD)”, co-implemented by CODE and BugiT Foundation.

He added that the “project is being supported by Skoll Foundation and implemented in seven African countries”.

According to him, the meeting will create avenue for citizens to contribute toward the improvement of the health sector, particularly primary healthcare.

”Our primary healthcare sector in Nigeria is in bad state and there is need to improve it.

”We decided to bring these stakeholders together to present some of our findings and give them a platform to make contribution on how best we can improve our health sector.

”This is the second phase of the project; in the first phase, we conducted research and gathered data which we presented here for these participants,” he said.

Modu also explained that the meeting had given his organisation the opportunity to educate citizens on how to track the COVID-19 intervention funds.

He said that participants at the event were drawn from the civil society organisations, persons with disabilities, religious and community leaders, youths and women groups, among others.
