NGO trains 34 Oncology Pharmacists
A Non- Governmental Organization, Project Pink Blue, has trained 34 oncology pharmacists in Nigeria in a bid to fight against cancer.

The Executive Director, Mr. Runcie Chidebe disclosed this explaining the need train more in Nigeria “Upgrade Oncology is a capacity development programme that is focused on improving cancer treatment and care through the provision of medical oncology training and the domestication of the treatment guidelines for better cancer care in Nigeria.
The six-day training held between Monday and Friday in Lagos was tagged ‘Upgrade Oncology.’
The Executive Director stated that the organization was committed to the treatment of cancer in Nigeria.
“Most of cancers are actually treated with drugs, therapies and other forms of known medication. There is a need to provide training for these people who are providing this chemotherapy to patients and who are also giving these medications.
Chidebe explained, “People cannot give what they don’t have; we brought pharmacists from all over the six regions of the country,” the oncology pharmacists would go back to their different hospitals to provide quality care to cancer patients after the training.
“COVID-19 has revealed that there is a need for all to start thinking about drug development, about clinical trial, about field testing.” He stated.
A Professor in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta Georgia, U.S.A, Donald Harvey, stressed the importance of team work among health workers.
“We cannot be successful if we did not work as a team, and that team has to be unified. It has to be under the direction of a physician taking care of the patient,” he stated.
