A Non-Governmental Organistion, Regina Pacis Foundation has lamented the growing economic hardship and urged all Nigerians to embrace self sustenance to overcome it.
The Founder of the Foundation Arc Edward Nkwegu (EDON) said that those relying on government for economic empowerment might soon lose their financial stability and self-worth.
He made the call during the 20th Anniversary of the Regina Pacis Foundation at his Okpoduma Agbaja country home in the Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State.
Nkwegu disclosed that: “Our world is faced with financial, security, environmental, employment emergencies and even spiritual crises.”
According to him, the ugly development has not only weakened the basic structures of survival but also badly affected the ethical society.
Proffering a permanent solution to the challenges posing threats to the basic structures of survival, Nkwegu urged all and sundry to embrace the habit of self-sustenance and resilience to overcome the global socio-economic turbulence.
“The question we must ask ourselves is this, who will emerge from this economic turbulence with resilience? Who will rise to the challenges of self-sustenance?” he asked.
He described self-sustenance as one of life’s greatest challenges, a journey that involves a cause-and-effect relationship; noting that anybody who desires financial freedom should embrace dedication, sacrifice, and selflessness.
Nkwegu further described the Regina Pacis Foundation as a charitable and non-governmental organisation dedicated to empowering individuals with the knowledge needed for self-sustenance.
“We believe in giving people a second chance through financial education, starting with foundational concepts that foster a language of financial literacy and self-sufficiency,” he said.
He advised people to take cognizance of financial principles, including cash flow and assets.
“We should ensure more money flows into our pocket than out, and understand that assets add value while liabilities take it away. Knowledge is the new currency but the real change begins with words and understanding. Money alone cannot eliminate poverty, however, financial literacy equips people to use resources wisely and build sustainable futures.
“At Regina Pacis Foundation, we recognise the need for a reformed education system that prepares our youth for real-world challenges. Instead of giving a man fish, we teach him how to fish, empowering him for a lifetime,” he added.
The foundation’s Chairman, Board of Trustees, Rev Fr John-Paul Uchenna Nwankwo said the organization remains determined to make the world a better place, noting that it has made remarkable achievements in human capacity building and empowerment, among other positive impact.
