NGX Equities Begins Week Bullish With Benchmark Index Up 1.9%

The Nigerian Exchange Limited, NGX began this week’s trading activities on Monday with a bullish sentiment as the benchmark index appreciated by 1.9%.

Specifically, the All-Share Index grew by 1,597.93 basis points or 1.9% to settle at 84,640.89 basis points from Friday’s 83,042.96 basis points.

In the same vein, the Market Capitalisation appreciated by 1.9% or ₦875 billion Naira from ₦45,442 trillion to close at ₦46,317 trillion.

Market analysis according to Coronation Securities Limited says “Buy interests in industrial heavyweights namely, DANGOTE CEMENT PLC, BUA CEMENT PLC, alongside ZENITH BANK PLC kept the market in the green, offsetting selloffs in FBN HOLDINGS PLC, UNITED CAPITAL PLC and JULIUS BERGER NIG. PLC. As a result, the year-to-date (YTD) return rose to 13.20%”

Analysis of today’s market activities showed that the value of transactions rose by 21.25% while the total volume traded advanced by 34.4%.

A total of 807,508 million units of shares were exchanged in 13,647 deals worth ₦11,031 billion. Where TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATION PLC led the volume chart with 66.89m units traded while NASCON ALLIED INDUSTRIES PLC led the value chart with deals worth ₦1.09bn.

By the close of transactions, Market breadth closed positive with 68 advancing issues outnumbering the 8 declining ones.

Top on the gainers’ chart is CHAMS HOLDING COMPANY PLC which moved up in price from ₦2.30k per share to ₦2.53k per share, gaining 0.23k or 10.00%.

Followed by DAAR COMMUNICATIONS PLC which grew from 0.90k per share to 0.99k per share, gaining 0.09k or 10.00%.

And AXAMANSARD INSURANCE PLC grew by 0.59k or 10.00% from 5.90k per share to 6.49k per share.

On the negative side however, is ABBEY MORTGAGE BANK PLC leading with a fall from ₦2.73k per share to ₦2.47k per share, losing -0.26k or -9.52%.

Then JULIUS BERGER NIG. PLC declined from ₦56.50k per share to settle at ₦54.50k per share, losing ₦-2.00k or -3.54%.

While CUSTODIAN INVESTMENT PLC trailed with a decrease from ₦10.15k per share to close at ₦9.80k per share, losing -0.35k or -3.45%.

From a sectoral perspective, gains in the Insurance (+7.2%), Industrial Goods (+4.4%), Consumer Goods (+1.8%), Banking (+1.3%) and Oil & Gas (+0.1%) indices reflected the overall market performance.
