NiDCOM Boss Mourns Death Of First Nigerian Olympic Medalist

The Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, extends her condolences to the Nigerian populace on the passing of Pa Nojim Maiyegun, the first Olympic medallist from Nigeria, at the age of 85.

In her message of condolence, Dabiri-Erewa commemorates Maiyegun as a genuine patriot who dedicated his entire life in service to his homeland. She also fondly recalls his heroic and patriotic performance at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, where he achieved the distinction of being Nigeria’s first Olympic medallist. Dabiri-Erewa emphasizes that Pa Nojim Maiyegun will always be remembered by Nigeria.

After relocating from Nigeria, the former boxer, who achieved a historic bronze medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, passed away in Vienna, Austria on Monday, where he had been residing for several years.

Dabiri-Erewa extends her condolences to the entire Maiyegun family, the Boxing Federation, the entire Sports Community, and the Nigerian community in Austria for the loss of a truly dedicated compatriot.
