The Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd (NIGCOMSAT) has extended a hand of support to telecom operators struggling with poor network services due to economic pressures.

The government-owned satellite company is offering its solutions and services to help these operators enhance their offerings amidst mounting inflation, forex devaluation, and unsustainable service tariffs, which are impacting their ability to roll out and expand infrastructure.

NIGCOMSAT is designed to support telecommunications companies, including providing access to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and enabling payments in local currency to mitigate the challenges posed by forex fluctuations.

The Managing Director, NIGCOMSAT, Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen said “We have been working diligently to upgrade our infrastructure, particularly our hubs in Lagos and Abuja, to provide communication solutions that meet global standards. Our service delivery team is committed to ensuring reliable support for all our offerings, such as broadband internet, direct-to-home (DTH) services, transponder leasing, and broadcast services,” She stated

Represented by Olufunke Fagbeja, Head of Marketing and Stakeholders’ Engagement, came during a training session organized for the media and channel partners in Lagos. The training aimed to update participants on trends in the communications satellite industry and equip NIGCOMSAT’s channel partners with the skills necessary to install VSAT equipment and extend connectivity to rural areas.

“We have forged new partnerships to provide connectivity in rural and underserved areas,” Egerton-Idehen affirmed

Mrs. Egerton-Idehen emphasized NIGCOMSAT’s mission to bridge the digital divide in Nigeria, focusing on innovation and local content solutions. She highlighted new partnerships aimed at providing connectivity to underserved areas and supporting startups in the satellite industry through the NIGCOMSAT Startup Accelerator program.

The training session is part of the Project 774 LGA Connectivity initiative, which seeks to connect all 774 Local Government Secretariats with internet access, create jobs, and reduce crime in local communities.
