The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) has announced plans to host the second edition of Nigerian Satellite Week (NSATWK 2026) on March 30–31 in Abuja, as the national operator celebrates two decades of Nigeria’s space economy.
According to a statement from the agency’s head of Corporate Communications, Stephen Kwande, the event is expected to convene top government officials, defence leaders, development finance institutions, satellite operators, and deep-technology startups from across Africa.
The Organisers say “the gathering has quickly become a key platform for shaping policy, forming commercial partnerships, and supporting emerging space-tech ventures.”
The Managing Director Jane Egerton-Idehen, who also serves as Vice Chair of the Global Satellite Operators Association, said the milestone reflects Nigeria’s long-term investment in sovereign space capability and its growing role in global satellite policy.
Egerton-Idehen said; “Twenty years ago, Nigeria made a sovereign decision to own its place in space. What we are marking this week is not simply longevity; it is the compounding return on that decision. This is where we bring that work into full view and define what the next twenty years will demand of us.”
The statement added that “NSATWK 2026 will feature a Startup Demo Day, a Stakeholders Forum, and a Gala Night recognizing contributors to Nigeria’s space sector. A major highlight will be the launch of Accelerator Cohort 3.0, aimed at strengthening innovation in satellite applications, connectivity, agriculture, and logistics.
“Senior government figures, including the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Chief of Defence Staff, are expected to deliver keynote addresses, underscoring both the economic and security importance of satellite infrastructure.”
As Nigeria marks 20 years since establishing NIGCOMSAT, the event is set to showcase the country’s evolving space capabilities and its ambition to play a leading role in Africa’s digital and satellite-driven future.
