Niger Govt Explores Collaboration with Firm to Boost Sustainable Agriculture

Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago has partnered with Matthias Berninger, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs, Science & Sustainability of Bayer AG on agricultural sustainability.

While on a collaborative meeting with the German multi-billion-dollar pharmaceutical and biotechnology company in New York, Governor Bago emphasized the role of facilitating innovation and development within the agricultural sector of Niger State.

Bayer AG, renowned for its diverse business portfolio cutting across pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare products, agricultural chemicals, seeds, and biotechnology, is geared to work together with Niger State on a comprehensive sustainability strategy.

It was gathered that this partnership will encompass crucial aspects such as access to innovation in agriculture, research and development, improved seed varieties, food production, and standardization of global best practices in crop protection.

It seeks to position Niger State as a key player in the global agriscience and food security domain.

With the support of Bayer AG, the state will mobilize international partners and stakeholders, promoting self-sufficiency in essential food items such as rice, maize, soybeans, millet, Shea butter, sugar cane, and yam.
