The Executive Secretary of the Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Sheikh Muhammad Awwal Aliyu has announced the commencement of the disbursement of the 2023 Hajj refund through a duly constituted committee.
In a statement by the Board PRO, Sheikh Aliyu explained that the committee comprises members of the Board’s management team and representatives from all the local government areas in the state.
He noted that the refund follows a directive from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), which compensated states for services not rendered to pilgrims at the Masha’ir by a Saudi Arabian service provider during the 2023 Hajj exercise.
According to the Executive Secretary, Niger State received a total sum of N225,934,920 from NAHCON as a refund for 3,699 pilgrims who participated in the 2023 Hajj. Each pilgrim will receive N61,080 (Sixty-One Thousand, Eighty Naira), equivalent to 150 Saudi Riyals.
Sheikh Aliyu disclosed that the committee had already commenced the disbursement process and assured that all 2023 pilgrims in the state would receive their refunds promptly.
He further emphasized that the committee would maintain transparency and accountability in the disbursement process to ensure that every eligible pilgrim receives their refund without delay.
The Executive Secretary reiterated the Board’s commitment to ensuring transparency and timely disbursement, promising that no pilgrim would be left out.
In a related development, the Board has extended the deadline for the payment of the initial deposit for the 2025 Hajj fare. The new deadline is 7th January 2025, replacing the initial deadline of 16th December 2024. This adjustment aligns with NAHCON’s 2025/1446 Hajj calendar of events.
The Board urged all intending pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj to take advantage of the extension to make their payments.
