Member representing Mariga constituency, Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, has emerged as the Speaker of the Niger State 10th House of Assembly.
Sarkin-Daji, a first-time lawmaker elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC-Mariga), was nominated by Engineer Mohammed Haruna (APC-Bida 2) while Abdulrahman Gambo (APC-Borgu) seconded the motion.
Mrs Afiniki Dauda (APC-Gurara) was equally elected as the Deputy Speaker by Pharmacist Umar Nasir (APC-Paiko) and was seconded by Bello Bako (APC-Rijau).
The Clerk of the Assembly, Abdullahi Kagara, thereafter administered the Oath of Office and Alligence to the nominated Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
In the same vein, the Speaker announced that the State Working Committee of APC recommended and approved Idris Musa Vatsa (APC-Lapai) as the majority leader; Mohammed Abubakar (APC-Chanchaga) as the Chief Whip of the Assembly and Mohammed Garba (APC-Agwara) as Deputy Majority Leader.
He added that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) also approved Andrew Doma (PDP-Shiroro) as Minority Leader and Ndagi Zakari (PDP-Mokwa) as Deputy Minority Leader.
In his acceptance speech, Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji said accountability, transparency and integrity will be the Assembly’s guiding principles and promised a cordial working relationship with the Executive.
