Niger State Boat Mishap kill 30 Farmers

30 Farmers have lost their lives in a boat mishap in Niger, while dozens are still missing in Gbajibo community of Mokwa local government area of Niger State, North-Central, Nigeria.

The unfortunate event occurred when the farmers boarded the boat to ferry them to their farms located on the other side of the river.

According to a source at the State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, over 100 persons were on board at the time of the incident.

He said, “the farmers were from Gbajibo, Ekwa, and Yankyade communities and were on their way to their farms located on the other side of the river Niger, old Gbajibo.”

The Public Relations Officer of NSEMA, Ibrahim Husseini, remarked that the agency, in collaboration with the Mokwa local government officials and the community local divers, is currently on a rescue, and recovery operation.

So far, 30 corpses have been recovered while dozens have been rescued, several others are still missing,” Ibrahim noted.
