The wife of the state governor, Hajiya Fatima Umar Mohammed Bago, who flagged off the program in Minna, expressed satisfaction with the commitment exhibited by the state ministry of primary health care centre in enhancing the smooth operation of health care workers in the state.

“The program is apt and crucial, bearing in mind the vital role primary health care centres play in the lives of women and children, which cannot be overemphasized. This program is also in line with the goals and objectives of the state government to bring primary health care centre facilities closer to the communities in the state.”

The wife of the state governor also called on women to always bring their children for immunization to ensure their safety and health.

She highlighted the items to be distributed, which include mama kit for pregnant women, therapeutic food and kitting chips agents, distribution of data tools, and motorcycles to the 25 local governments of the state.

Also speaking, the state commissioner of the ministry for primary health care, Dr. Ibrahim Dangana, explained that the program is a continuous process which kicked off since the Governor Umar Mohammed Bago led administration took office to give primary health care maximum support.

“The pilot program started with 13 local government areas and has now spread to twenty-three local governments, and very soon the remaining two local governments will be included to boost the activities of the primary health care centres in all twenty-five local governments in the state.”

He explained that the significance of launching the community health care is to influence and promote the chips agents program, which was launched by the ministry to carry out house-to-house visits and provide basic primary health care facilities needed to enhance the health status of women and children across the various local governments in the state.

Dr. Dangana also said the ministry will soon launch another vaccine known as HPV for women under the age of nine to prevent them from cervical cancer and other related diseases.

According to data released by the World Health Organization (WHO), over two million children have so far been immunized in Niger State this year.
