Niger State governor-elect inaugurates 62-man transition committee

The Niger State Governor-elect, Mr Umar Bago, has inaugurated a 62-man transition council that would usher in the new administration in the state.

Bago, while inaugurating the council in Minna on Thursday, said that it would ensure a seamless transition from one administration to another.

He also said that the council would give assurance that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was one big family that is committed to the service of the people.

He said that members of the council were carefully chosen because of the value they can individually and collectively add and owing to their pedigree and capacity.

“As such, you are expected to bring your best to ensure you succeeded in the assignments given to you. I urge you all to put in your best, synergise and ensure the success of your assignments,” he said.

Bago said their assignment was to interface with officials of the current government in order to understand the position of the state financially and economically.

He urged the council to probe deeply the position of all government books, transactions as well as commitments.

According to him, accountability is very important in governance, as the trust of the common man in us gave us this mandate.

“We have promised Nigerlites to be accountable, and responsible, to protect them and our resources, irrespective of tribe, religion or race, and to achieve this, we are expected to be professional, diligent and firm. We need the understanding of all and sundry.

”This task is a major outing of the in-coming administration and we cannot afford to disappoint the people, who are anxiously looking forward to what we have to offer for the improvement of their lives.”

He noted that the assignment of the council was in the interest of the state, adding that all findings would be made clear to the public.

In his remarks, Chairman of Niger Transition Council, Dr Suleiman Ndanusa, appreciated the opportunity given to members to serve and promised to work hard to ensure a smooth transition.

He said that the committee would be divided into sub-committees in order to succeed in the huge task given to it.
