Niger State Governor mourns NECO Registrar

The Governor  of Niger State in North Central Nigeria,  has described the death of the Registrar, National Examination Council (NECO), Professor Godswill Obioma as a great loss to the nation.

Governor Sani Bello through  his Spokesperson, Mary Berje, said that Professor Obioma’s death was coming at a time when the country needed his services in the advancement of the education sector.

He said that” since he assumed office a year ago, Professor Obioma had made his impact felt in the running of the organization through prompt examination and the release of result. ”

“The Registrar was an experienced and hardworking personality…Our heartfelt sympathy is with the family, and the examination body praying that God grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and grant the deceased soul eternal rest,” the Governor said.

He further assured the family that the government is with them at this time of grieve and would give them the necessary support and comfort.

The Director, Human Resource Management, Mr. Mustapha Abdul, stated that Professor Godswill Obioma died after a brief illness in Minna on Tuesday, contrary to insinuations in the social media that he was assassinated in his residence in Minna.

Professor Obioma was appointed Registrar of NECO on 14th May, 2020 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

A Professor of Educational Measurement and Evaluation, the late Obioma was a former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).

Until his appointment as the Registrar of NECO, Professor Obioma was the Ebonyi State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
