Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting women’s inclusion in governance by mandating that all vice-chairmanship positions in the forthcoming local government elections be occupied by women.

Governor Bago made this announcement while briefing stakeholders. He emphasised his dedication to gender inclusivity. He noted that despite their significant contributions to society, women have long been marginalized in leadership roles.

A strong advocate for women’s empowerment, the governor stressed that women are instrumental to national growth and development. He highlighted their ability to drive meaningful progress and transformation when given the opportunity.

This is not just about fulfilling a quota; it is about recognizing the strength, resilience, and intelligence of our women,” Bago said. “Women have the capacity and should be given a chance. When included in governance, they bring balance, innovation, and a unique perspective that is crucial for development.”

Reiterating his administration’s resolve to break barriers for women in leadership, the governor assured that women would be actively involved in decision-making, particularly on issues affecting them.

He urged stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state to support the initiative, noting that it aligns with global best practices for inclusive governance and sustainable development.
