Niger State Sponsors Youths On Modern Agriculture Training
The Niger State, North-Central, Nigeria, government says it has sponsored 50 youth to the ongoing special train-the-trainee programme on modern agricultural production in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Southwestern, Nigeria.
Ms. Hauwa Mohammed, Special Adviser to the governor on Social Investment Programme, stated this while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Minna
She said that “the participants for three months of training under Enterprise for Youths in Agriculture (EYiA) would be exposed to soilless farming, cutting-edge greenhouse technology, and hydroponic.”
Mohammed maintained that the training was a collaboration project between states government, Soilless Farm Laboratory, and Mastercard Foundation aimed at increasing food production in the country.
According to her, the essence of the programme is to equip the youths with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience for successful engagement in modern agricultural practices.
“The participants would also be exposed to soilless farming, which is a revolutionary technology that allows cultivation in controlled environments, thereby minimising water usage and maximising crop yield.” she said.
Mohammed said that the participants comprised of 35 females and 15 males were selected from seven out local government areas across Niger.
“The trainees would serve as catalysts for the holistic development and sustainability of the state’s agriculture sector,’’ she said.
She said that the state government had allocated 10,000 hectares of land and commenced the process of engaging 250,000 farmers across the 25 local government areas as part of efforts to boost agricultural production in the state.
