The Government of Niger State Government, located in North Central Nigeria, is set to construct a 25,000-capacity stadium that meets FIFA standards as part of its commitment to promoting sporting activities in the state.
The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Yahya Ibrahim Gulbin Boka, disclosed this during a meeting with chairmen of various sports associations in the state. He was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Nuhu Garba Ngaski.
The commissioner stated that once the necessary approvals are secured, construction of the stadium will begin immediately. He affirmed that the ministry is doing everything possible to ensure the continued growth and success of sports in Niger State.
He noted that Governor Umar Mohammed Bago is making deliberate and strategic efforts to reposition the sports sector to become more reliable and capable of meaningfully engaging the youth.
Gulbin Boka added that since taking office, Governor Bago has demonstrated a strong commitment to developing modern sports infrastructure that will place Niger State on the national and international sports map.
He expressed gratitude to the governor for his consistent support of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development and lauded his determination to complete the Ahmadu Bahago Sports Complex and initiate the construction of the new 25,000-capacity stadium.
According to the commissioner, the meeting with the sports association chairmen was timely, as it tackled key issues affecting the development of sports in the state. He reiterated the ministry’s full commitment to driving improvements across all sporting disciplines.
“Our vision as a ministry is to create an environment that not only supports athletes but also empowers them to excel at the local, national and international levels. I urge the people of Niger State to work with the ministry in moving sports forward,” he said.
He further emphasised that the ministry’s mission is to identify and nurture talent, promote excellence, and establish robust infrastructure that will support all sports associations across the state.
“We can achieve more by upgrading and maintaining our sports facilities, which are essential for effective training and competitive success,” he added.
Hon. Gulbin Boka also acknowledged the critical role played by the chairmen of the sports associations in advancing sports in the state. He assured them of continued collaboration and support from the ministry.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairperson of the Special Sports Association, Amina Jummai Gimba, commended the Ministry for its efforts in making Niger State a hub for sports excellence. She observed that with the current level of commitment from the ministry, more youths would be actively engaged in sports.
Gimba said this would reduce social vices and improve productivity. She further explained that the association is working closely with the ministry on ongoing initiatives that will strengthen cooperation and foster the overall development of sports in the state.
Some of the chairmen who spoke during the meeting expressed their appreciation to the ministry and urged it to continue its efforts in promoting sports development across Niger State.
