The Federal Government of Nigeria has in an effort to establish a new national carrier, approved the lease of three aircraft for initial operations.
Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, made the disclosure while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja the nation’s capital.
According to the approval by the Federal government, the aircraft will be procured from Airbus and Boeing and would begin operations with domestic routes.
“The airlines will begin with domestic routes, then expands to regional and intercontinental routes.”

On the likely date for the commencement of operations, Sirika said “We will announce commencement soon. There is no specific date for the take-off of the airline operations.”
The Nigerian Air is expected to restore the glory of Nigeria’s aviation sector, boost the country’s economy, attract investors and create job opportunities.
