Nigeria Appreciates UK’s Support On Security, Governance

The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator, Ibrahim Gaidam has appreciated the United Kingdom government for the support and collaboration extended to Nigeria in various areas, including security, governance, and economic cooperation.

Mr Gaidam gave the appreciation during a courtesy visit by the British High Commissioner and his team led by the High Commissioner Richard Montgomery to the Headquarters of the Ministry in Abuja.

The Minister stated that the United Kingdom has consistently been a champion of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law and the commitment to these principles serves as an inspiration to many nations around the world, including Nigeria.

He said; “the relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom is deeply rooted in historical ties and shared values.

Our nations have long been partners in progress, collaborating on various fronts to promote Peace, Security, and Economic Development.”

Mr. Gaidam expressed his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of Nigeria, adding that the visit is a testament to the importance of both nation’s place in combating transnational crimes, terrorism, and other security challenges.

He said; “We recognise the expertise and experience of the United Kingdom in these fields and eagerly look forward to discussions that will further enhance our cooperation.

“We express our sincere gratitude for taking the time to visit and engage with us. Your presence and those of your entourage here underscore the deepening relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom and the commitment to further strengthen our ties.”

The Minister reiterated that the discussions held would yield fruitful outcomes and pave the way for greater collaboration in addressing shared challenges.

Mr Gaidam added that Nigeria and the United Kingdom can forge a path towards a safer, more secure future for our nations and the people.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery said that the commission values their relationship with the Ministry and several other law enforcement agencies across Nigeria.

He said, “Both countries need to harness common knowledge in the system and strengthen their relationship and expressed his respect for Nigeria police working at the community levels and front lines despite the difficult circumstances.”

We are generally standing ready to work closely with the current administration,” Montgomery added.
