The Governor of Anambra State has called on Nigerians to remain patriotic and unite to build a greater and resourceful nation.

He emphasized that no country or nation is a perfect one, as every nation continues to struggle in its match to a more perfect union.

Governor Soludo stated this at Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary celebration held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, the state capital.

According to the governor, “the path to stability, growth and sustainability will be challenging and there are no quick fixes. All of us must fasten our seat belts, and collectively think and work Nigeria out of the current challenges. We have no other country but Nigeria, and we must make it to work for everyone.”

While commending Nigeria’s heroes past, Governor Soludo said that the celebration of the Independence anniversary offers an opportunity for deep reflection and to refine the gains towards the future, identifying patriotism, selfless service, among others as some of the attributes of most of Nigeria’s heroes past.

Meanwhile, Soludo disclosed that the Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport will now be known as Chinua Achebe International Passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri, Anambra State. Late Professor Albert Chinualumogu Achebe (Chinua Achebe), was the Anambra -born father of African Literature.

Governor Soludo said that the renaming follows his administration’s deliberate effort to recognize the efforts of Nigeria’s heroes past.

The Governor stated that federal and various state governments have tried to immortalize the heroes, expressing his administration’s strong commitment to reclaim the soul of the society by celebrating the values of founders of the country.

He paid glowing tributes to all the founding fathers who despite their shortcomings, demonstrated nationalism, saying that though there are squandered opportunities, the future holds great potentials.

The Governor stated that the new administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is faced with a lot of challenges, even though there are no quick fixes, everyone should fasten their seatbelts.

Governor Soludo further said, “this year 2023 is remarkable. Again, the country has peacefully transferred power from one president to another and our democracy is certainly evolving strongly. Challenges abound but I see hope,” he concluded.

Earlier, the Governor inspected the parade mounted by the Nigeria Police.

The event featured calisthenics and march past by some schools in the state.
