The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has tasked the Nigerian Bar Association NBA to sustain the people’s confidence in the judiciary as the last hope of a common man.

Governor Fintri made the call while declaring open the Emergency National Executive meeting of the association in Yola, the state capital.

He called on the lawyers to be firm in reprimanding the few bad eggs among them and celebrating those with integrity and courage in the profession.

Governor Fintiri who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, said the government was committed to changing the narrative of the state positively.

She noted that the profession has served as a fulcrum around which the country’s democracy revolves.

The Deputy Governor urged the lawyers to exhibit the highest sense of sensitivity, decorum, professionalism and ethical standards in consonance with the dictates of the noble profession.

”I urge you to be firm in reprimanding the few bad eggs in your midst while celebrating those with demonstrable integrity, dexterity, courage and patriotism’. Let justice be done and let justice be seen to be done,  She added.

Professor Farauta noted that the Adamawa State government had provided modern infrastructural facilities which include roads, fly-overs, schools, hospitals and courts as dividends of democracy to the people.

Earlier, the NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau urged the government at all levels in Nigeria not to take decision issues in line with what the constitution and the law permit.

Maikyau said, that as lawyers, they give guidance and protection to the people and government.

Speaking on the outcome of the Election Petition Judgement he said the judges have rendered justice in those decisions, adding wherever there is justice there is also commendation as the people would connect to the justice of the case.

Maikyau stressed that the emergency NEC meeting of NBA is related to the conduct of the election of the association which is slated in July, where new national officers are expected to emerge, ahead of the national conference in August this year.

According to him, it would be too close for the association to have an election in July and host a national conference same time.

He thanked the Adamawa State Chief Judge for good leadership and reforms in the judiciary, which brings justices to the doorstep of the common man.

On her part, the state Chief Judge, Justice Hapsat Abdulrahaman urged the participants to make decisions that, would enhance the relevance of the bar.

She lauded the judiciary for entrusting women to handle election petition judgments across the country.
