D’Tigress of Nigeria have reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket championship after beating Egypt 83 – 65 on Sunday at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.
Nigeria, who dominated the opening quarter and secured an 18-10 win, continued its dominance in the encounter as the score was 42-23 by the end of the second quarter.
In the third quarter, D’Tigress lost a bit of momentum as Egypt narrowed the gap going into the last quarter. The score was 56 – 42.
However, Nigeria wrapped up the game in the final quarter with an thrilling 83-65 victory to reach the quart-finals of the competition.
Amy Okonkwo led the scoring for Nigeria as she recorded 29 points and 13 rebounds, while Murjanatu Musa was also brilliant with her 18-point contribution. Nicole Enabosi also registered double figures after scoring 10 points.
Defending champions Nigeria have now stepped up its quest for an astonishing fourth consecutive continental title with their impressive performances at the ongoing 2023 FIBA Women Afrobasket championship.
While Nigeria is safely in the quarterfinal stage already, Egypt and DR Congo will need to play a qualifying round to determine if they will join Nigeria or head back home.
