The Super Eagles have called up Innocent Bonke to replace the injured Wilfred Ndidi for Nigeria’s Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier against rivals Ghana.

Ndidi was injured during Leicester City’s Europa Conference League tie with Rennes last week. Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers, said that the Nigerian international may spend three weeks on the sidelines. This rules the defensive midfielder out of the two-legged tie with Ghana.

However, Bonke has now stepped in to feel the void.

Bonke his debut for the Super Eagles in September during  a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde, which Nigeria won. Since joining Lorient in the January transfer from Swedish side, Malmo, Bonke has played in seven league games.

The first leg of the encounter will take place in Ghana on March 25th, while the return fixture will hold four days later in Abuja. The winner of the play-off will join four other teams that would represent Africa at the Qatar 2022 World billed in November.
