Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with China to enhance transportation infrastructure.

This partnership aims to ensure that transportation systems are accessible, affordable, efficient, smart, and dynamic while adhering to laws that promote environmental sustainability and safety.

Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Alkali, stated this during the China-Nigeria Infrastructure Cooperation Forum, China-Africa (Nigeria) 2024 and 18th China Engineering and Technology Exhibition held in Abuja.

The Minister commended the long-standing cherished Nigeria-China Infrastructure Cooperation and many other bilateral platforms that seek to enhance the economic potentials of Nigeria and China, noting that the Federal Ministry of Transportation has been a strategic partner.

Senator Alkali also commended the China International Contractors Association, the Office of Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, and all relevant stakeholders for organising the Forum and dedicating it to channelling the concerns and interests of numerous Chinese partners engaged in the provision and development of one form or another of infrastructure.

“This diversified event is organized as a follow-up to the outcomes of the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing in September this year.

“It is hoped that the central objective of promoting the infrastructure, economic and trade relations between China and Nigeria will be sustained to make this engagement as achievable as FOCAC, whose combined effects will see the two countries as mutual partners with desirable commitments to consolidate the shared future gains of economic prosperity embedded in the relations,” he said.

Senator Alkali added that there was no better time for this engagement than now given the priority accorded to infrastructural development by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a major component of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which has also placed transportation on top scale of priority recognised as gateway to the Nation’s economy and enabler of economic growth.
