Nigeria has congratulated Ghana on its 69th Independence anniversary under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” reaffirming its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Accra.
The Nigerian Government wished the government and people of Ghana continued peace, democratic consolidation, and sustainable development.
In a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, extended warm congratulations to Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Ablakwa, as the country commemorates its independence from colonial rule on 6 March 1957.
The statement noted that Ghana’s independence marked a historic milestone as the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to attain freedom from colonial rule, inspiring other African nations, including Nigeria, in their quest for sovereignty and self-determination.
He stated, “Nigeria and Ghana share a long-standing relationship built on common historical experiences, cultural affinity, and a shared commitment to peace, democracy, and African unity.”

Both countries have continued to collaborate closely in promoting regional cooperation through institutions such as the Economic Community of West African States, the African Union, and the United Nations.
“The two nations have also strengthened diplomatic and economic ties over the years through cooperation in trade, education, energy, defence, migration management, and cultural exchange. The movement of people between our countries has further reinforced people-to-people diplomacy and economic linkages,” he explained.
The spokesperson also highlighted the longstanding collaboration between Nigeria and Ghana in peacekeeping and conflict-prevention efforts across West Africa, demonstrating their shared commitment to democratic governance and regional stability.
