The Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has extended warm congratulations to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of the Republic of Haiti, Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, as well as to the government and people of Haiti, on the occasion of the country’s Independence Anniversary.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the minister said the historic anniversary stands as a powerful symbol of Haiti’s pioneering role in the global struggle for freedom, dignity, and self-determination.

“As the first Black republic to attain independence, Haiti occupies a unique and enduring place in world history, inspiring generations across Africa and the African Diaspora in the collective pursuit of liberty, justice, and equality.

“Nigeria joins the Government and people of Haiti in commemorating this significant milestone and reaffirms its solidarity with the Haitian nation as it continues its efforts towards peace, stability, and sustainable development.

“Nigeria underscores the importance of unity, resilience, and inclusive governance in addressing contemporary challenges and advancing national renewal.

“Nigeria and Haiti share historical bonds rooted in common heritage and shared values, and Nigeria remains committed to strengthening bilateral relations through diplomatic engagement, cultural exchange, and cooperation within multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations and other international platforms, in support of global peace and development”.

“Nigeria conveys its sincere goodwill to the Government and people of the Republic of Haiti and expresses its hope for enduring peace, economic recovery, and collective prosperity for the Haitian nation’ the statement reads.

Nigeria congratulating Haiti reflects shared historical bonds and diplomatic recognition of Haiti’s foundational role in Black liberation and self-determination, a sentiment echoed by many nations and diaspora communities on January 1st.
