Nigeria Crowned Champions Of Women’s Basketball In Africa

D’Tigress of Nigeria have emerged champions of Africa for the fourth consecutive time following their thrilling 84-74 victory against Senegal in the 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket final.

Nigeria were dominant in the first quarter, winning 19-10. In the second, Senegal tried to mount a comeback but D’Tigress were determined to hold onto the lead as the quarter ended 43 – 31.

The Senegalese came fighting back in the third quarter as they reduced Nigeria’s lead to five (5) points going into the final quarter. 62 – 57.

With all to play for in the last quarter, D’Tigress stepped up their game, neutralising the stiff challenge from Senegal.

Nigeria won a tense final, outshooting Senegal to claim another FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title as the game ended 84-74.

Nigeria have become only the second team ever after Senegal to win four consecutive titles.

D’Tigress coach Rena Wakama, who is the only female coach at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, is now the first female coach to win the title in her first outing with Nigeria.
