Nigeria and the Republic of Cuba have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and deepening cooperation on regional and global issues.
The commitment was made when the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Nigeria, Ambassador Miriam Morales Palmero, at the Ministry’s headquarters.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to review the state of Nigeria–Cuba relations, exchange views on current international developments, and underscore their shared dedication to peace, multilateralism, and respect for international law.
Welcoming the Cuban envoy and reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to continue strengthening its longstanding relationship with Cuba, Ambassador Ahmed emphasized Nigeria’s firm commitment to peace, security, and the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law.
The Permanent Secretary assured the Cuban delegation of Nigeria’s continued solidarity and willingness to engage constructively within multilateral frameworks to address shared global challenges.
He also highlighted Nigeria’s active role in multilateral diplomacy, including within the United Nations system, and stressed the importance of cooperation among developing countries in advancing global security, development, and human rights.

Similarly, Ambassador Morales Palmero expressed appreciation to the Government of Nigeria for its consistent support and solidarity, noting that Nigeria’s stance reflects the cordial and principled relationship between both countries, particularly within multilateral fora.
She briefed the Permanent Secretary on recent developments in Latin America and their broader regional implications, calling for greater international understanding and cooperation.
The Cuban Ambassador reiterated Cuba’s commitment to peaceful engagement and social development, highlighting priorities such as free education, universal healthcare, and gender inclusion.
She also reaffirmed Cuba’s openness to dialogue founded on mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
During the meeting, Ambassador Morales Palmero informed the Permanent Secretary of plans for a proposed visit to Nigeria by the Vice President of Cuba, Salvador Valdés Mesa, after the African Union Summit.
She explained that, “The visit would build on previous high-level engagements and further consolidate political, economic, and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.”
Both sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening Nigeria–Cuba relations for the benefit of their peoples and sustaining collaboration on regional and international issues of common interest.
