The Republic of Cuba and Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cultural ties, recognizing the importance of collaboration in arts, education, and heritage exchange.
Both nations made this commitment during a courtesy visit from the Cuban Ambassador to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Miriam Morales emphasized that Cuba is not only culturally rich but also thrives as a harmonious society where individuals of diverse races and backgrounds coexist peacefully, free from discrimination.
“We are today here because we are inviting NIDCOM to the one international conference in Cuba holding next month which is called the decade for people of African descendants, equality, equity, and social justice.”
Morales, who said both countries already have many areas of cooperation such as the cultural interchange added that more sectors can be enhanced.
While speaking, the Chairman of NiDCOM, Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa said the renewed commitment of the present administration not only aims to deepen bilateral relations but also to inspire solidarity and cooperation between Nigeria and other nations.
Dr. Dabiri-Erewa said, “Cuba has very strong African connections and we have quite a number of Nigerians living in Cuba, and the experiences have been very good. We share a lot of cultural similarities. This kind of cultural exchange is very important.”
She emphasized the importance of unity and how both nations can cultivate mutual understanding and promote cultural diversity to celebrate their rich histories and traditions.
“We need to be united. We must all come together and be united. So we look forward to working with you,” she said.
