Nigeria, Egypt Sign Defence Cooperation Agreement

In a significant move to enhance defence industry collaboration, Nigeria and Egypt have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen ties between the two nations.

According to a statement by Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence spokesman, Henshaw Ogubike, the agreement was formalised at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja, following a brief visit by a delegation from the Arab Republic of Egypt to the ministry.

The MoU was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Nigerian Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, and Egypt’s Assistant Minister of Defence, Major General Walid Hamouda.

The agreement aims to foster closer military ties, promote intelligence sharing, and expand opportunities for joint training exercises, all within the framework of each country’s laws and regulations.

Dr. Kana highlighted the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and Egypt, expressing confidence that the MoU will solidify future cooperation. He emphasised Nigeria’s previous benefits from Egypt in terms of intelligence and training, and looked forward to continued mutual support.

Major General Hamouda, who led the Egyptian delegation, expressed gratitude for the collaboration opportunity and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the terms of the MoU.

He also praised the strong and cordial relationship that has existed between the two countries over the years.
