The Nigerian government is establishing an Auto Industrial Park to enable and ease the production of automobile component part.
The Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, (NADDC), Mr Joseph Osanipin disclosed this during an end of the year media parley with Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria, (CICAN).
Mr Osanipin said the Nnewi Auto Industrial Park which is presently undergoing construction would assist manufacturers access the required facilities to manufacture automobile parts.
According to him, “We have some people that operate in shallows, They have the expertise, but they don’t have the finance, they have the expertise, but they don’t have the equipment they don’t have the facility. So if we build this, we provide the facility, we can bring everybody together in an industrial park, we provide the electricity security and they are going to have shared facility.”
“While we are doing our investigation alone, we realize that in the year, the motorcycle spare part that were imported to this country was close to $19 million in one year, so if we can
provide some of this, we are going to save a lot on importation.”
The Director General while speaking on the council’s achievement in one year said the council in partnership with relevant stakeholders came up with the curriculum that takes care of conversion, maintenance, installation all that has do with Compressed Natural Gas CNG.
“As I mentioned, everything that has to do with training of technicians on anything that has to do with CNG. The curriculum has been accepted accepted, which means, when you do training with our curriculum, we get certified for that.”
“CNG comes with a lot of value addition along the lines, so we brought youth from all over the country to train them on the value chains that you can get in auto.”
“For example, You can be supplying the kits needed for conversion you don’t have to be a technician before you do that, you can be converting, which means you are in technician and you are going to be trained, Apart from that, you can be participate in the gas section”. He added.
