The Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, NEPC, Dr Ezra Yakusak says the council is compiling the export potential of the 774 local government areas in the country known as Export774, as part of measures to boost exportation and encourage foreign direct investments in the country.
To this end, the NEPC boss called on the private sector to look into export as a viable means of a business that attracts Foreign Direct Investments and creates employment in the country.
Dr Yakusak who was speaking during the 2023 Export4survival hiking campaign said the campaign is aimed at creating awareness on the urgent need for export of made in Nigeria goods and services.
According to him, “So, we’re here to exercise and to create awareness, because we need to exercise to survive, just as we need to export to survive.”
He stated that when the Compendium is out it would be a document that will be readily available for investors and also exporters alike.
“If you want any product from the 774 local government you will be able to know exactly where to go, what kind of product and the potential of that product and the market competitiveness of that product, let us say it will be an avenue to know the export potentials and also attract foreign investment,” the NEPC boss explained.
Dr Yakusak disclosed that non-oil export performance recorded an increase over the last two years, noting that the export of new products is also being recorded.
“We’re seeing new products into the non-oil export baskets products like sorghum, orange pill, and many other products coming up on board, these products hitherto were not exported but right now they have been exported and are due to our Campaign,” he added.
The Executive Director called for the collaboration of both public and private partners to promote the campaign to improve Nigeria’s economy.
